Todd Sucherman Gives The Ultimate Masterclass!

Chances are that you’ve already seen drum solos from such great drummers as John Bonham, Phil Collins, Neil Peart, and so on and so forth, but what’s shameful about that is the fact they most people haven’t seen drum solos from some of the more underrated drummers that are just as good, if not better. One such underrated drummer is a man named Todd Sucherman who plays for Styx. Let’s be honest, when you think of big names usually Todd Sucherman doesn’t always come to mind. Perhaps, it’s simply he’s not marketed as much as the others, but his skills are probably at the top.

In case you’re unaware, Todd Sucherman is without a doubt one of the most technically proficient and well-rounded classic rock drummers of all time. In 2009, Modern Drummer Magazine named him the #1 rock drummer. To put it simply, this man is genuinely one of the most consistently best drummers in classic rock. There is a reason why he’s been ranked so high, even if you aren’t super familiar with his solo work.

What you’ll see here in this video is a drum solo that Todd played at the Modern Drummer Festival in 2008. Todd was not the last drummer to go on, but it’s clear from this performance that he should’ve been. It’s hard to find other classic rock drummers with the same advanced technique he utilizes, especially during a solo. Don’t believe me? See for yourself!
